CVAG June 2009 Supplemental Newsletter

Dear Members and Supporters,

Appeal by Legal General Assurance Society Ltd

Application Reference 07/01196/Out

TRL Site, Crowthorne, Berkshire, RG45 6AW

After all the hard work that people in the village have put in opposing the above 1000 dwelling development on the site we are pleased to tell you that the Secretary of State today recommended that the appeal be dismissed and planning permission REFUSED

We note in particular the Inspector’s conclusion that the scheme "was not well thought out" and that it could indeed do harm to the village.

The Planning Inspector made several important points in his report that CVAG are please to highlight.

  • The proposed new green space would not be sufficiently attractive to avoid a significant net increase in recreational pressure on the Special Protection Area
  • The important green gap between Crowthorne and Bracknell would be lost
  • There is a risk that the proposed bus service to the site would not be subsidised for long enough for it to become viable
  • Other sites mentioned in the Bracknell Forest Core Strategy could deliver needed housing before the appeal site

You will find that the Inspector also mentioned that the traffic plan was flawed 'junctions were looked at in isolation, without considering the interaction between them or the implications for the network as a whole' and would simply move jams to other locations near and around the village.
