CVAG February 2010 Newsletter 4

Dear Members and Supporters

This is the fourth newsletter this year, and we thought you would like to hear of a major success in our attempts to preserve the character of our village.

Sanctuary loses its appeal

In the report dismissing the Sanctuary appeal against refusal of planning permission for a substantial nursing home in Sandhurst Road the Planning Inspector said “the proposed scheme would have an unacceptably dominating appearance that would have a harmful impact upon the pleasant, low key, residential character of this part of Sandhurst Road The Inspector commented that the scheme would “have a harmful impact on the character and appearance of the surrounding area”.

It was noted that the increased traffic from staff working there, particularly during the night time change of shift, would have an adverse effect on the residents of Shaw Close, a quiet residential cul-de-sac.

Crowthorne Village Design Statement (VDS), which was prepared by CVAG with guidance from local residents on future developments in Crowthorne, was also considered by the Planning Inspector. The Inspector noted that, because it was the subject of consultation, it carried weight as a material consideration.

Carole Doran, secretary of CVAG, who spoke at the appeal on behalf of CVAG, said, “We all thought the proposed building was too large for that location so it’s good to hear that the Inspector agreed”.

Crowthorne Parish Council who originally recommended refusal of this application also spoke at the appeal hearing. Tina Mackenzie-Boyle, chairman of Crowthorne Parish Council said, “The Inspector’s decision completely vindicates the council’s original recommendation that this application be refused”

The Iron Duke development plans.

Since the developers held their consultative meetings CVAG have been informed that the designs are being redrawn with an intention of answering the many concerns raised by villagers who attended. The developers now plan to submit their Planning Application in about a fortnight but before that date will display the revised drawings in the empty shop by the Iron Duke.

Site Allocations Development Plan Document (SADPD)

The (SADPD) allocate possible sites to accommodate growth in Bracknell Forest during the period up to 2026, as required by the Government’s Regional Spatial Strategy (South East Plan).

CVAG have received a letter from BFC seeking our views through a number of questions about the best approach to this end. We urge you all to put forward your views and, if you wish, to give CVAG a copy of these.

The questionnaire, together with a summary leaflet and supporting evidence can be downloaded from the BFC where you can also see the supporting documents the supporting documents.. Eight areas are shown. Area 3 is part, but not all, of the old TRL site and area 2 is Broadmoor.

There are show eight areas and one (area 3) is part, but not all, of the old TRL site and the other (area 2) Broadmoor Hospital. The TRL development cannot take up the whole of the site as it is protected by the SPA legislation. The other concretes over most of Broadmoor farm and is very close to the SPA

There will be two exhibitions in Crowthorne and a chance to discus the plans. The first at the Morgan Centre on Thursday March 18th 10am to 1pm and then Crowthorne Baptist Church on Saturday March 27th 10am to 1pm. Planning officers will be at the meetings to explain the issues in more detail.

Keeping Our Village Tidy.

Two members of CVAG committee attend the Crowthorne Neighbourhood Action Group (CNAG). This group is composed of Councillors, residents and the police and deals with certain matters referred to below. All attendees from Crowthorne and Wokingham Without have been tasked with the job of collecting evidence to take to the next meeting concerning three main priorities. These are

  1. Anti social behaviour.
  2. Speeding.
  3. Police on the streets.

If any of you, our members and supporters, wish to bring any worries on these subjects to our attention we will be able to present solid evidence to the above group. We must have specific evidence to take to the meeting. It is no good just telling us “there is a problem”. We need dates, times and location and a photograph a description of the particular problem of which you are aware.
