Ref: 08/00693/FUL 75-77 Waterloo Road: development of 18 flats

 “Garden Grabbing Attempt”

An application has recently been submitted for permission to build yet another block of flats. This time it is to replace the two existing bungalows and mature gardens at 75-77 Waterloo Road with a single large block of 18 flats.

The 1600 respondents to the VDS questionnaire made it quite clear that they did not want to see additional  large blocks of flats and this is therefore quite contrary to the expressed wishes of the Crowthorne residents.

The site is too small for this proposed  development, which  is for even more flats than a previously refused application by the same developer of these two properties.

The developers assertion that a regular bus service runs by the site is entirely incorrect. The lack of sufficient parking and a suggestion that visitors cars could be parked IN THE STREET, which is a primary route for vehicles, is completely preposterous.

The removal of trees would be unacceptable, and would spoil the character of the area. The roots of the remaining trees are quite likely to be damaged by the impact’ of the on site parking, causing further loss of trees

Said CVAG Spokesperson Carole Doran “ This proposal is garden grabbing of the worst kind. If permitted that part of Waterloo road would become a dark corridor overshadowed by blocks of flats on both sides. The fact that there are already flats being constructed in the area shouldn’t be used as justification for building more flats, rather it should be seen as reason against having more flats and to maintain the diversity in the area.”
